Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1646-HS thaler Dav-6347
This specimen was lot 922 in Jean Elsen sale 165 (Brussels, June 2026), where it sold for €260 (about US$358 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ALLEMAGNE, BRUNSWICK-WOLFENBÜTTEL, August (1635-1666), AR Taler, 1646 HS, Zellerfeld. D/ Le duc à mi-corps à g., en cuirasse, ten. son heaume et un bâton de commandement. R/ Écu orné, sous cinq heaumes. Trace de monture. presque Très Beau. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, August, 1635-66, silver thaler of 1646, Zellerfeld mint. Obverse: armored half-length bust of the duke left, holding a helmet and a baton; reverse: five-helmeted ornate arms. Trace of a mount mark, about Very Fine.)"
This type was struck 1639-46 along with the virtually identical Dav-6348/KM 393.2 struck 1639-48 and various wild man thalers (Dav-6338).
