Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1616 thaler Dav-6303
This specimen was lot 2558 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 1,000 CHF (about US$1,338 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Braunschweig-Lüneburg-Wolfenbüttel, Herzogtum, Friedrich Ulrich, 1613-1634. Taler 1616, Zellerfeld oder Goslar. Selten in dieser Erhaltung (Rare in this condition). NGC MS61. Herrlich ausgeprägtes Prachtexemplar (Extraordinarily well struck cabinet piece)." This specimen seems to be a product of the Zellerfeld mint which was operated by mintmaster Heinrich Oeckeler (mintmark: crowned heart) who also worked at the Goslar mint. This type was struck 1613-28 and is only slightly less common than the well known Dav-6285 of Heinrich Julius.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen is 28.48 g.
