Stack's Bowers November 2022 Collectors Choice sale, lot 74606

This specimen was lot 74606 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Wolfenbuttel. 1/4 Taler, 1597. Goslar Mint; mm: flower. Heinrich Julius. PCGS AU-53. Featuring a minor planchet issue, this lightly handled specimen nevertheless yields clear overall detail, with an elegantly postured wildman and some enticing iridescent color. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This quarter thaler was struck in 1597 and it is unpriced in the SCWC. A half thaler (KM MB265) also exists.
