Künker sale 386, lot 5007

This specimen was lot 5007 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €6,000 (about US$7,753 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM, Heinrich der Jüngere, 1514-1568. 1/2 Taler 1534, Riechenberg. Von größter Seltenheit. Feine Patina, vorzüglich. Exemplar der Slg. Justizrath Reimmann, Auktion Adoph Hess, Frankfurt/Main, März 1892, Nr. 3339 und der Slg. Dr. Werner Koch, Auktion Dr. Busso Peus Nachf. 273, Frankfurt/Main 1970, Nr. 18. (duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Henry the Younger, 1514-68, half thaler of 1534, Riechenberg mint. Extremely rare, fine patina, extremely fine.)"

This very rare type is not priced in the SCWC. Another half thaler of 1534 (KM MB37) features the duke's bust on the obverse.
