Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel (1622) 1-1/4 thaler Dav-6313
The first specimen was lot 1277 in Ponterio sale 173 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $470. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel. Glucks 1 1/4 Taler, ND (1622). Friedrich Ulrich (1613-34). Fortuna with flying sail standing on globe; Reverse: Four scenes divided by legend. Light Gilt, cleaned and smoothed on the obverse. VERY FINE." The second specimen was lot 25094 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[2] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. 1-1/4 Talers, ND (1622). Andreasberg Mint. Friedrich Ulrich. NGC VF-35. A pleasingly presentable example of the always popular type, this tremendous specimen yields a glossiness and deep cabinet tone to the surfaces. Wear is seen on the high elements of the design, though it is not aggressive nor defacing of the overall details. A pleasing example that is sure to appeal to any collector of European RARITIES. From the Augustana Collection."
