This specimen is the first coin issued by Brazil as part of the F.A.O. series. Few South American countries issued F.A.O. coins but Brazil issued a large number of one, two and five centavos for F.A.O. in the 1975-78 period. A regular issue five centavos (KM 577.2) also exists for 1975. The coin's reverse features a zebu cow, a variety more resistant to tropical diseases.
