This specimen was lot 12071 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $47,000. The catalog description^[1] noted, "BRAZIL. 6,400 Reis (Peca), 1824-R. NGC MS-61. EXTREMELY RARE Pedro I Peca Pedro I (1822-31). EXTREMELY RARE. Crosses in legend. Sharply struck." This gold 6400 réis was minted at the Rio and Bahia mints 1823-30. All the dates are rare. It is nearly the last of a denomination introduced in Brazil in 1727.
