This specimen was lot 20399 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $2,530. The catalog description[1] noted, "Pedro I gold 4000 Reis 1824/3R, MS62 NGC, sharply struck bust and lustrous, a nice example of this scarce issue for the newly created Brazilian empire." This type was struck at Rio and Bahia 1823-28 as well as a larger 6400 réis (KM 370).
Recorded mintage: 38,000.
Specification: 8.2 g, 0.917 fine gold, .241 troy oz AGW.
