This specimen was lot 23952 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $5,581.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "João VI Prince Regent gold 6400 Reis 1815-R, MS63 NGC. The 6400 Reis of João VI have ever decreasing mintages starting in 1809 making the last 3 dates of the issue, 1815, 1816, and 1817, the rarest. It's quite a nice to surprise to find one of these later dates in near pristine condition as this specimen. From The RLM Collection, Part II." The type was struck 1805-17 with the portrait of João as Prince Regent (he later became king João VI).

Recorded mintage: 40,000.
