This specimen was lot 23260 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $822.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "João VI Prince Regent gold 4000 Reis 1815(R), AU55 NGC, nice original toning, appears to be the 5/4 overdate." This overdate is not listed in the SCWC; the type was struck 1808-17 at Rio and 1805-16 at Bahia and is common.
Recorded mintage: 83,000.
Specification: 8.07 g, 0.917 fine gold, .237 troy oz AGW.
