This specimen was lot 23294 in Heritage sale 3012 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $3,450. The catalog description[1] noted, "João VI Prince Regent gold 6400 Reis 1810R, MS64 NGC, brilliant mint luster and very lightly toned, a superb example of this series. The 0 in the date appears to be punched over a 1!" The type was struck 1805-17 with the portrait of João as Prince Regent (he later became king João VI). The SCWC lists a regular date and an 1810/09 overdate.

Recorded mintage: 159,000.

Specification: 14.34 g, 0.917 fine gold, .423 troy oz AGW.
