This specimen was lot 12067 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $1,939. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRAZIL. 6,400 Reis (Peca), 1809-R. NGC MS-63. João Prince Regent (1805-18)." The type was struck 1805-17 with the portrait of João as Prince Regent (he later became king João VI). An 1809/8 overdate is noted.
Recorded mintage: 188,000.
