This specimen was lot 30001 in Heritage sale 3105 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $1,260. The catalog description[1] noted, "Brazil: João Prince Regent gold 6400 Reis 1805-R AU58 NGC, Rio de Janeiro mint. Dot after REGENS variety. First year of issue. Presenting original surfaces with an antique-gold patina dressing the intricate and still lustrous peripheries. From the Petropolis Collection, Part III." In 1805, queen Maria I was declared insane and her son João was appointed prince regent, a title he held until her death in 1816, whereupon he ruled as king until his own death in 1826. This denomination, the peça, was struck for both rulers in 1805.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a common date.
