This specimen was lot 23796 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $998.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Jose I gold 6400 Reis 1754-B, VF Details - Removed from Jewelry NGC. An early better-date Bahia Mint issue of Jose with apparent heavy usage in jewelry that has dulled the strike detail and made the surfaces unnaturally bright. Rare Date. Ex-Norweb (lot#852 - Spink America March 1997)." This type was struck 1751-77 from Rio and Bahia (shown here) and is among the more available colonial gold coins of Brazil.
