This specimen was lot 23239 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $18,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "João V 2000 Reis 1725-M, AU53 NGC, subdued patina with superior fields and features. The 2000 Reis of the Dobrao series are quite rare and problem free in AU condition is incredible. A fabulous piece. From The RLM Collection." This type was struck at the Minas Gerais mint 1724-27 and at Bahia 1714-25 and at Rio 1723-26 (KM 112). This is the rarest of the three mints and the rarest 2,000 réis of the eighteenth century.
