This specimen was lot 23235 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $36,718.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "The elusive 1000 Reis of 1724 João V 1000 Reis 1724-M, choice VF Details, clipped planchet, 2.27 grams. Appealing surfaces with nearly full towers. Very light hairline scratch on the reverse. One of the rarest issues in the entire Brazilian gold collection and one of the highlights of part 1 of the RLM Collection. From The RLM Collection." This type was struck at the Minas Gerais mint 1724-27 and at Bahia (KM 104) and Rio.
