Brazil 1724-M 10000 reis
This specimen was lot 1123 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $17,250. The catalog description[1] noted,
"1724 10,000 reis. Minas Gerais mint. Types as above. Bright and lustrous medium gold with toning highlights around peripheries. Extremely rare, the key date in the short Minas Gerais 10,000 reis series by a considerable margin. The Norweb coin, called Very Fine, realized $19,800 in 1997 and was one of the top highlights of that collection -- one of the finest Brazilian gold groupings brought to auction. This example is likewise a highlight of the Eliasberg collection of Brazilian gold coins. From the John H. Clapp Collection; Clapp estate to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., 1942."
The type was struck in Minas Gerais 1724-27 and in Bahia 1727-29.
