This specimen was lot 73719 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2024), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRAZIL. 160 Reis, 1696-(B). Bahia Mint. Pedro II. NGC AU Details--Cleaned. Narrow crown variety. Despite the unfortunate past cleaning, the present example retains a good appeal, with sharp strike and handsome peripheral toning." This type was struck 1695-97 and is the first coin of this denomination struck for Brazil. It is likely scarcer than catalog values indicate.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 4.48 g, 0.917 fine silver, .132 troy oz ASW.
Catalog reference: KM-80.
