Künker sale 406, lot 4124

This specimen was lot 4124 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €4,500 (about US$5,905 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-BAYREUTH, MARKGRAFTSCHAFT, Georg Wilhelm, 1712-1726. 1/2 Reichstalerklippe 1724, Bayreuth, auf das Vogelschießen. RR Attraktives Exemplar mit feiner Patina, winz. Schrötlingsfehler am Rand, vorzüglich. (marquisate of Brandenburg-Bayreuth, George William, 1712-26, klippe half thaler of 1724, Bayreuth mint, for bird hunting. Very rare, attractive example with fine patina, planchet defect on the edge, extremely fine.)"

This rare type was accompanied by a half thaler in round format (KM 148). Brandenburg-Bayreuth is in central Germany just north of Bavaria. It merged with Brandenburg-Ansbach in 1769 and was sold to Prussia in 1791.
