Sincona sale 101, lot 2426

This specimen was lot 2426 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Brandenburg-Bayreuth, Markgrafschaft, Georg Wilhelm, 1712-1726. 15 Kreuzer 1717, Bayreuth. Auf die 200-Jahrfeier der Reformation. Münzmeister Simon Richter. NGC MS64. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (Germany, margraviate of Brandenburg-Bayreuth, George William, 1712-26, fifteen kreuzer of 1717, Bayreuth mint, on the bicentennial of the Reformation. Magnificent condition.)"

This specimen was offered again as lot 199 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$457 including buyers' fees). Brandenburg-Bayreuth is in central Germany just north of Bavaria. It merged with Brandenburg-Ansbach in 1769 and was sold to Prussia in 1791. This type comes with (shown here) or without the value below the bust (KM 133). The SCWC incorrectly notes the initials as "SK". Fifteen kreuzer made one-sixth of a thaler.
