Brandenburg-Ansbach 1765-KK thaler Dav-1996
This specimen was lot 2105 in Sincona sale 23 (Zürich, May 2015), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"Brandenburg-Ansbach, Markgrafschaft, Alexander, 1757-1791 Konventionstaler 1765. Schwabach Kreisobristentaler. Vorzüglich-FDC. (margraviate of Brandenburg-Ansbach, Alexander (1757-91), convention thaler of 1765, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This type was issued 1765 only and is listed as rather scarce. It is accompanied by a ducat (Fr-391) and a quarter thaler (KM 265). It comes not from the Electorate of Brandenburg (later the Kingdom of Prussia) but from Brandenburg-Ansbach, a Hohenzollern enclave west of Bavaria and neighboring Nuremburg. Ansbach was sold by the margrave to Prussia in 1791 but was incorporated into Bavaria in 1806.
