This specimen was lot 3612 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €1,000 (about US$1,292 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-ANSBACH, MARKGRAFSCHAFT Johann Friedrich, 1667-1686. 1/4 Dukat 1680, Schwabach. GOLD. Vorzüglich. (Germany, Margraviate of Brandenburg-Ansbach, John Frederick, 1667-86, quarter ducat of 1680, Schwabach mint. Extremely fine.)"
This type, issued 1680 and 1684, is the most affordable gold coin of the period from Brandenburg-Ansbach, a principality ruled by a branch of the Hohenzollerns in Franconia north of Bavaria.
