Künker sale 400, lot 436

This specimen was lot 436 in Künker sale 400 (Berlin, February 2024), where it sold for €4,200 (about US$5,449 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BELGIEN, BRABANT, Albert und Isabella von Spanien, 1598-1621. Doppelter Dukaton 1620, Brüssel. R Hübsche Patina, sehr schön +. Exemplar der westfälischen Privatsammlung „Mehrfachportraits auf Münzen und Medaillen". (Belgium, duchy of Brabant, Albert and Isabella of Spain, 1598-1621, double ducaton of 1620, Brussels mint. Rare, handsome patina, choice very fine.)"

The type shown here was struck at the Brussels mint 1618-21. As a piedfort, it is rare. It accompanied the much more common single ducaton (Dav-4428).

Specification: 64.96 g, 0.944 fine silver, .985 troy oz ASW, this specimen 64.87 g.
