This specimen was lot 765 in Jean Elsen sale 159 (Brussels, June 2024), where it sold for €90 (about US$116 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRABANT, Duché, Philippe II (1555-1598), Cu gigot (duit), 1597, sans marque d'atelier. D/ Croix de Bourgogne couronnée, accostée de la date. R/ Ecu couronné. Extrêmement rare. Très Beau. (duchy of Brabant, Philip II, 1555-98, copper gigot or duit of 1597, without mintmark. Obverse: crowned Burgundian cross divides the date; reverse: crowned arms. Extremely rare, very fine.)"

In the Dutch provincial system of the eighteenth century, a duit was a copper coin worth one-eighth of a stuiver or 1/480 of a ducaton. The gigot was half a liard.
