This specimen was lot 866 in Jean Elsen sale 164 (Brussels, March 2026), where it sold for €70 (about US$98 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRABANT, Duché, Philippe II (1555-1598), Cu gigot, 1593, Bruxelles. D/ Croix de Bourgogne couronnée, accostée de la date. R/ Écu couronné. B en fin de légende. Rare. Très Beau. (duchy of Brabant, Philip II, 1555-98, copper gigot of 1593, Brussels mint. Obverse: crowned Burgundian cross divides the date; reverse: crowned arms, a "B" at the end of the legend. Rare, Very Fine.)"

This gigot or half liard was struck in 1593 at Brussels and 1596-98 at Antwerp and Maastricht. The Eighty Years War was still in progress but most of the action in 1593 was in Luxembourg and the north.

Recorded mintage: 230,670.
