This specimen was lot 864 in Jean Elsen sale 164 (Brussels, March 2026), where it sold for €70 (about US$98 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRABANT, Duché, Philippe II (1555-1598), billon double patard, 1593, Anvers. D/ Croix cantonnée de deux lions et deux couronnes, un lion en coeur. R/ Écu couronné dans un polylobe. Très Beau à Superbe. (duchy of Brabant, Philip II, 1555-98, billon double patard of 1593, Antwerp mint. Obverse: cross cantonned with two lions and two crowns, a lion at the center; reverse: crowned arms within a polylobe. Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"

This type, the first issue of this denomination in a century, was struck 1593 only at Antwerp and Tournai. The Eighty Years War was still in progress but most of the action in 1593 was in Luxembourg and the north.

Recorded mintage: 1,182,253.

Specification: 3.34 g, 0.333 fine silver, 24 mm diameter; this specimen 3,15 g.
