Jean Elsen sale 151, lot 965

This specimen was lot 964 in Jean Elsen sale 151 (Brussels, June 2022), where it sold for €3,400 (about US$4,248 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRABANT, Duché, Marie de Bourgogne (1477-1482), AV florin d'or de Bourgogne, s.d. (1478-1481), Anvers. Différent: tour. D/ Saint André deb. de f., t. à d., ten. sa croix devant lui. R/ Ecu de Bourgogne sur une longue croix pattée. Très rare. presque Superbe. (duchy of Brabant, Mary of Burgundy, 1477-82, undated gold florin of Burgundy, Antwerp mint, tower privy mark. Obverse: St. Andrew facing, head to right, bearing his cross before him; reverse: arms of Burgundy over a long cross pattée. Very rare, about Extremely Fine.)"

This and the accompanying half florin (Fr-36) are the only gold coins issued for Mary during her reign as duchess of Brabant.

Specification: 3.40 g, 0.792 fine gold, 23 mm diameter, this specimen is 3,42 g.
