Bolivia 1882-PTS FE 10 centavos
This specimen was lot 73371 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $65. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA. 10 Centavos, 1882-PTS FE. Potosi Mint. PCGS MS-62. This piece offers gray argent surfaces with deeper tones on the reverse. Mint state, a solid strike, and problem-free." This silver ten centavos, roughly equal to a dime, was struck in Potosi 1875-83. It superseded similar ten centavos (KM 153.1-.3 and KM 158.1-.2) issued 1872-75. All types are fairly common tho varieties abound. Assayer FE is recorded for 1872-90. Prior issues of 1872-75 read "9 DS FINO" instead of "9 D FINO" shown here. This type is common but varieties exist. In 1883, the regime experimented with copper-nickel five and ten centavos; these were flops.
Recorded mintage: unknown but common.
Specification: 2.30 g, 0.900 fine silver, 17.1 mm diameter, .066 troy oz ASW.
