This specimen was lot 32430 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), where it sold for $810. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 1/2 Scudo 1841 PTS-LR MS64 NGC, Potosi mint. A delightful specimen with semi-mirrored fields showing light touches of amber tone. The appearance is made complete by a sharp strike that leaves no major detail unrealized." This type was struck 1841-47 and is seldom seen, despite the low catalog value.
Recorded mintage: unknown but fairly common.
Specification: 1.7 g, 0.875 fine gold.
