CNG Lissner sale, lot 1212

This specimen was lot 1212 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $10,890. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA, Republic. 1825-present. AV 2 Escudos. Potosí mint, Luis de Aquilar and Rafael Mariano Bustillo, assayers. Dated 1841 PTS LR. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 63. Superb prooflike BU with just a few faint adjustment marks that can hardly be seen. Highest ever graded. Extremely rare. This is truly a wonder coin and by far the finest known example. Purchased from Joe Elliott, November 1973." This type was struck 1841 only. The denomination as a whole is scarce to rare.
