Bolivia 1840-PTS LR 8 scudos
This specimen was lot 20088 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $3,818.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 8 Scudos 1840-LR, MS62 NGC Eliasberg, fully lustrous with sharp details on both sides and no laminations, some superficial verdigris on the reverse." While silver coins from Bolivia exist in vast quantities, gold from Bolivia is scarce. For the colonial period, Colombia may be regarded as the most prolific issuer, followed by Mexico, followed by Peru. Bolivia, Chile and Guatemala are minor sources. This type was minted 1831-40 and is scarce, especially in nice condition.
