Bolivia 1833-PTS LM 8 soles
This specimen was lot 24154 in Heritage sale 3032 (Chicago, April 2014), where it sold for $1,527.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic 8 Soles 1833 PTS-LM, Potosi mint, MS63 NGC. Choice Uncirculated, with very attractive steel gray toning with golden hues. Currently the third highest-graded specimen of this date graded and a very desirable type coin as well." This type was struck in large quantities 1827-40 after Bolivian independence. It was struck in Potosi. This coin usually comes poorly struck on bad planchets. Later eight soles were struck to the same weight standard until 1859, when the weight was lowered to 20 grams.
