This type was struck in large quantities 1827-40 after Bolivian independence. It was struck in Potosi. This coin usually comes poorly struck on bad planchets; the first specimen is slightly above average. It exhibits a few chopmarks, indicating that it spent time in China as a trade dollar. Later eight soles were struck to the same weight standard until 1859, when the weight was lowered to 20 grams.
Recorded mintage: unknown but common.
Specification: 27 g, 0.903 fine silver, edge reeded and lettered AYACUCHO SUCRE 1824.
