Bolivia 1832 scudo rev H3029-31162.jpg

This specimen was lot 31162 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $499.38. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold Escudo 1835 PTS-LM, UNC Details (Surface Hairlines) NGC. Some original luster remains with moderate hairlines in the fields and a repaired hole above Bolivar's head." While silver coins from Bolivia exist in vast quantities, gold from Bolivia is scarce. For the colonial period, Colombia may be regarded as the most prolific issuer, followed by Mexico, followed by Peru. Bolivia, Chile and Guatemala are minor sources. This type was struck 1831-40 and doesn't catalog for much but nice specimens are few and far between.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.38 g, 0.875 fine gold.

Catalog reference: KM 98, Fr-24.
