Bolivia 1630-P T 2 reales
This specimen was lot 591 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 28 (Winter Park, FL, November 2020), where it sold for $450. The catalog description[1] noted, "Potosí, Bolivia, cob 2 reales, 1630T, rare, ex-Concepcion (1641), ex-Rudman. Thick, oblong flan with very bold full date outside full cross, the shield also full and well detailed with clear P-T to left, deeply toned XF with hint of surface oxidation only. From the Concepcion (1641) and pedigreed to the Isaac Rudman numismatic cabinet." This type was struck 1626-48, throughout the first part of the reign of Philip IV. Dates were added in 1617; even so, many are so crudely made that the dates are not legible. This type is rare; it was never made in large quantities and nearly all melted down in the great remintage of 1649-52 when the debased cobs were called in.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 6.77 g, 0.931 fine silver, this specimen 5.82 grams.
