SB822-30327r.jpg

This specimen was lot 30327 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2022), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOHEMIA. Taler, 1737. Prague Mint. Charles VI. PCGS MS-63. RARELY encountered so enticing and alluring, this choice crown radiates with a mostly frosty argent nature with some subtle champagne hints and some light adjustment marks on the reverse. Incorrectly attributed on the holder as an issue from the Vienna Mint and Austria proper. From the Augustana Collection." This type was struck 1736-40, towards the end of the reign of Charles VI, and is fairly common. Bohemian thalers use a different central escutcheon on the arms and so are listed separately from Austrian thalers. The practice was ended during the reign of Maria Theresia.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: Dav-1086; KM-1503.2.
