Sincona sale 26, lot 3617

This specimen was lot 3617 in Sincona sale 26 (Zürich, October 2015), where it sold for 2,400 CHF (about US$2,965 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA, Ferdinand I. 1521-1564 Taler 1544. Kuttenberg. Selten. Sehr schön. (Holy Roman Empire, Ferdinand I, 1521-64, thaler of 1544, Kuttenberg mint. Scarce, very fine.)"

This particular type is a very early thaler; the joachimsthaler is the ancestor of our dollar.

Specification: silver, the first specimen 28.89 g.
