Bentheim-Bentheim 1662-LK 6 stuber
This specimen was lot 4970 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €500 (about US$646 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BENTHEIM-STEINFURT, GRAFSCHAFT, Ernst Wilhelm, 1643-1693. Blamüser (6 Stüber) 1662, Münster. RR Winz. Kratzer, sehr schön. Aus der Sammlung "Cygnus in Nummis". (county of Bentheim-Steinfurt, Ernest William, 1643-93, six stuivers of 1662, Munster mint. Very rare, scratches, very fine.)"
This tiny county was surrounded by the bishopric of Munster. This obscure type is listed for 1659 and 1662 along with a stuber and double stuber. Stuber is German for stuiver. The dynasty originally ruled all three counties (Bentheim, Tecklenburg and Rheda) but Tecklenburg was lost in 1696. The county was mediatized in 1806.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen 4.58 g.
