Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale, lot 73099
SB222-73099r.jpg

This specimen was lot 73099 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "BELIZE. 100 Dollars, 1980. Franklin Mint. CHOICE PROOF. Floral series, orchids. A wonderful gold proof kept sealed within its original Franklin Mint envelope and housed in a custom folder made for the Franklin Mint's distribution efforts in Japan. A wholesome and handsome piece." The Franklin Mint issued a number of NCLT's for Belize in the late seventies and early eighties. For some reason, they used low purity gold so these often come with spotty toning.

Recorded mintage: 250 + 2,454 proofs.

Specification: 6.21 g, 0.500 fine gold, 0.100 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-9; KM-63.
