Belgium 1987 50 centiemen rev DSLR.jpg

This type was struck at the Brussels mint 1956-2001 for Belgium. It is a modified version of KM 144, struck 1952-55. We are calling it a "50 centiemen", rather than "50 centimes", to note the Flemish legend "BELGIE". A similar type (KM 148) was struck with French legends. Some dates exist with medal alignment; these are noted as KM 149.2. Other dates, such as 1989-90, 1995, 1997 and 1999-2001, were struck only for the collector sets. The Brussels mint ceased operations in 2018 and Belgium orders its coins from the Utrecht mint.

Recorded mintage: 9,000,000.

Specification: 2.75 g, bronze, 19 mm diameter, designed by Marcel Rau.

Catalog reference: KM 149.1.
