This type was struck at the Brussels mint 1933-34 with French legends (KM 103) and Flemish legends (KM 104, shown here). As Belgium is about evenly divided between the two languages, that is the government's answer to local regionalism. King Albert was killed in a climbing accident in 1934 and his successor, Leopold III, would appear on some twenty franken of 1934 (KM 105). A rare variety (KM 104.2) exists with medal rotation.
Recorded mintage: 12,300,000.
Specification: 11 g, 0.680 fine silver, .240 troy oz ASW.
Catalog reference: KM 104.1.
