This specimen was lot 1092 in Jean Elsen sale 121 (Brussels, June 2014), where it sold for €400 (about US$641 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BELGIQUE, Royaume, Léopold III (1934-1951), AR 50 francs, 1935 FR, Pos. B. Frappe médaille. Exposition universelle - Centenaire des chemins de fer. Rare. Dans son boîtier original. Superbe à Fleur de Coin. (kingdom of Belgium, Leopold III (1934-51), silver fifty francs of 1935, position B, medal strike, for the universal exposition for the centenary of the railroad. Rare, with original box, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

This type was struck in 1935 with Dutch and French legends (French legends shown here) to honor the centennial of the first Belgian railway. This specimen is a rare variety struck in medal rotation.

Recorded mintage: 140,000 (including KM 106.1) plus 140,000 with Dutch legends (KM 107).

Specification: 22 g, 0.680 fine silver, .481 troy oz ASW, 35 mm diameter.
