This specimen was lot 4545 in Goldberg sale 69 (Los Angeles, May, 2012), where it sold for $172.50. The catalog description [2] noted, "Belgium. 2 Francs, 1904. French, DES BELGES. Leopold II, head left. NGC graded MS-64. The Judy Cahn Collection." Belgium separated from the Netherlands in 1830 and has pursued a independent existence since that time, tho involuntarily involved in both World Wars. Around the turn of the century, the government yielded to pressure from the Flemish population and began to issue coinage in both French (shown here) and Flemish (KM 59). The last silver two francs was issued in 1912.
