This specimen was lot 73090 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $408. The catalog description[1] noted, "BELGIUM. 10 Centimes, 1898. Brussels Mint. Leopold II. NGC MS-67+. Flemish legends. Exceptionally attractive and approaching the pinnacle of grades possible for 19th century issues, this amazing survivor of a minor displays an enchanting glossy finish and light luster to the well struck surfaces." This type was struck 1894-95, 1898 and 1901 and was the first of this denomination to show Flemish legends. All Belgian coinage had heretofore displayed only French legends, to the annoyance of the Flemish half of the population.

Recorded mintage: 3,500,000.

Specification: 4.50 g, copper-nickel, 21 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 43.
