Bavaria 1871 thaler Dav-613
This specimen was lot 3689 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €900 (about US$1,178 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BAYERN, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH: Ludwig II. 1864-1886. Vereinstaler 1871. Stempel von C. Voigt. Sehr selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Germany, kingdom of Bavaria, Louis II, 1864-86, union thaler of 1871, dies by C. Voigt. Very rare, especially in this condition. Extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This thaler was struck n 1871, the year Germany was unified by Bismarck after the Franco-Prussian War. The dies by Voigt vary in the arabesques from the dies by J. Ries (Dav-614).
