This specimen was lot 2908 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $78. The catalog description[1] noted, "BAVARIA: Ludwig II, 1864-1886, BI kreuzer, 1866, great luster (especially for billon), PCGS graded MS67, ex Almer H. Orr III Collection." This type was struck in large quantities 1865-71 and is common. One thaler was 120 kreuzer. King Ludwig II ruled until 1886, when he was deposed in favor of his brother. Disliked for his extravagance and his homosexuality, he died soon after under very mysterious circumstances.
