Sincona sale 9, lot 3700

This specimen was lot 3700 in Sincona sale 9 (Zürich, October 2012), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Bayern, Königreich Ludwig I. 1825-1848. Konventionstaler 1835. Denkmal wegen der Trennung der Königin von ihrem Sohn Otto. NGC MS63. FDC. (Kingdom of Bavaria, Louis I, 1825-48, convention thaler of 1835, on the monument to king Otto leaving his mother, choice uncirculated.)"

This type, struck 1835 only, commemorates the departure of Ludwig's second son Otto for Greece to become her king. The 1830's saw a gush of commemoratives in Bavaria on significant and insignificant topics. The fineness was lowered from .868 to .833 in 1827.
