This specimen was lot 23980 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Maximilian I Josef Taler 1823, MS65 NGC. Superbly struck, with essentially mark-free, reflective, surfaces. The most elusive date of a very scarce four-year type. Very rare in this Gem condition." This type is listed with small mintages 1822-25. This weight standard was called the convention thaler and was used until 1837.
