Sincona sale 97, lot 1225

This specimen was lot 1225 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 650 CHF (about US$943 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Bayern, seit 1623 Kurfürstentum, seit 1806 Königreich. Maximilian III. Joseph, 1745-1777. Konventionstaler 1774 A, Amberg. Madonnentaler. NGC MS62+. Prachtvolle Erhaltung mit herrlicher Patina. Das durch NGC höchstbewertete Exemplar. (Germany, electorate of Bavaria, Maximilian III Joseph, 1745-77, convention thaler of 1774, Amberg mint, Madonna reverese. Beautiful condition with magnificent patina, Finest certified by NGC.)"

This type, struck at Munich and Amberg 1760-77, is common. These "Madonna" thalers were very popular among the inhabitants and many were made into religious pendants.
