Bavaria 1740 6 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 3720 in Goldberg sale 85 (Los Angeles, June 2015), where it sold for $247. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Bavaria. Vicariat 6 Kreuzer, 1740. Karl Albrecht. Bust right. Reverse: Eagle. Well struck with lovely original toning and mint luster. One year type. NGC graded MS-63." This denomination, roughly equal to one twentieth thaler, was struck in in Bavaria starting in 1740. This type was struck 1740 only. Karl Albrecht was duke and elector of Bavaria 1726-45. The elector of Bavaria was vicar of the empire during an interregnum, in this case between the death of Charles VI and the election of Francis of Lorraine.
Recorded mintage: unknown but probably fairly scarce.
